Scientific Methods is a class designed to introduce middle school students to scientific reasoning. It is a good class for advanced 6th graders and 7th graders. The topics range from beginning chemistry, geology, aeronautics, weather, and ecology. During the class we do primarily hand-on activities with a minimal amount of lecture. Emphasis is on the logical process of how to relate and apply science concepts.
In order to free up class time for lab activities, students are required to do written work at home. This involves filling in handouts that are kept in a notebook. Review sheets and tests will also be done at home and graded by the teacher. There is one project each semester which gives the students the opportunity to be creative and also to present work to the class.
The books are loaned to the students and all handouts/tests are created by the teacher. This means there are no books to buy for this class!
